Who We Are

Equilibrium Therapy Group was founded by Cory Applegate, MS, LMFT. Cory started her private practice in 2017, and has since welcomed a team of like-minded therapists, associates, and counselors in training to join her on her mission to provide evidence-based, accessible treatment to the community. We provide counseling for those experiencing emotions that feel out of control, a sense of purposelessness, or who are feeling hopeless. Our team is diverse in skills and expertise and is dedicated to helping others through effective, accessible therapy services. We strive to make our office a comfortable place with a non-judgmental atmosphere.

What We Do

We provide in-person and remote therapy, or, most often, a combination of both. For clients who prefer primarily remote sessions, periodic in-person, experiential sessions are offered that can help practice and cement the learning done in the office.

We take a holistic approach to mental health and wellness, seeking to balance acceptance and change in the journey towards healing. We utilize evidence-based treatments such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focus Therapy (EFT), and Motivational Interviewing, providing our clients with tangible skills and approaches that have been shown by research to be effective in bringing about change. We tailor these therapeutic approaches to each individual client, incorporating Mindfulness, somatic, and experiential exercises that help clients to break out of patterns of avoidance and hopelessness.

About Cory

Cory works with individuals, couples/polycules, and families, and has experience treating a wide spectrum of issues, such as depression, anxiety, substance use/abuse, and trauma.

Cory completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Washington and worked for several years in psychology and psychiatry research. She received training in Motivational Interviewing, PTSD etiology and treatment, substance use and harm reduction strategies, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Her extensive research background led her to pursue a clinical career in Marriage and Family Therapy at Seattle Pacific University, and a strong belief in providing evidence-based treatments- meaning the modalities she uses have been supported by research to be effective. Some of those modalities include DBT, CBT, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Gottman Couples Therapy, Sex Therapy, and Equine-Assisted Mental Health.

Cory has extensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, including DBT for multi-problem adolescents, Prolonged Exposure-DBT protocols for trauma, and Advanced Topics in DBT facilitated by the creator of DBT, Marsha Linehan. Cory has been facilitating DBT groups in both inpatient and outpatient settings since 2012. Cory provides “Gold Standard” DBT, meaning individual DBT therapy, DBT groups, between-session phone coaching, and meets with a weekly DBT consultation team through Northwest DBT Seattle.

As a lifelong equestrian, Cory has always had an intrinsic interest in the healing power of horses. In 2022 she completed a post-masters certificate program in Equine Assisted Mental Health through Denver University’s Institute for Human-Animal Connection, and now offers clients the opportunity to incorporate horses in sessions in both West Seattle and Redmond.

Founded by Cory Applegate, LMFT in 2017, we are now a thriving practice with a team of interns and associates that are working towards licensure.  With each of us bringing our unique background and training, we serve a diverse range of clients to provide effective, affordable treatment for our community.
